Merano (South-Tyrol – Italy, *1987). He started studying the accordion with Matteo Facchin and then continued at the Conservatories of Pescara (IT) and Oslo (NOR) with Claudio Jacomucci and Frode Haltli. He graduated in accordion at master level in 2014 at the Conservatory of Pescara (cum laude) and in Physics from the University of Trento (bachelor degree).
Luca played as soloist in Italy, France, Norway, Belgium, The Nederlands in institutions like: BOZAR (Bruxelles), Italian culture Institute of Amsterdam, Teatro Valli of Reggio Emilia (Ita), Conservatory Gent (Bel), Conservatory of Bolzano (Ita), Barco Ducale di Urbania (Ita), Palazzo della Gran Guardia of Verona (Ita), Sala Raffaello di Urbino (Ita), Norges Musikkhøgskole of Oslo (Nor), Conservatory of Pescara.
He has premiered the work “Tensegrity” of C. Jacomucci for 8 accordions and 4 dancers (Amsterdam, 2012) and Arcana for 4 accordions and choir (Urbania, 2013).
2013: first price (“Primo premio assoluto”) ex aequo at the International accordion competition of Santeramo in Colle (IT). 2014: second price at the International accordion competition of Rieti (IT). 2015: finalist of the “Supernova Klassiek” competition in Bruxelles in duo with Barbara Ardenois.
His repertoire ranges from Baroque (Bach, Händel, Scarlatti, Vivaldi) to original contemporary music (Sciarrino, Gubaidulina, M. Lindberg, Sørensen, Ingólfsson) passing through Messiaen, Ives, Stravinsky, Ravel, Grieg; in solo, duo, ensamble and orchestral works. He is mainly interested in the new forms of music expression. Luca Pignata plays in the duo Multiple Choice with the Belgian accordionist Barbara Ardenois.
He is accordion and ensemble teacher in the Music Academies of Waregem and Zottegem (BEL) and is giving workshops and seminaries about accordion history, organology and repertoire with Barbara Ardenois.
Since 2014 he writes for the accordion information blog “Planet accordion”.

Luca Pignata attended masterclasses with the accordionists Claudio Jacomucci, Corrado Rojac, Massimiliano Pitocco, Luciano Biondini (Ita), Iñaki Alberdi (Spa), Jean Luc Manca (Fra), Butch Morris, Pauline Oliveros (USA), Friedrich Lips, Sergej Tchirkov (Rus).
From 2008 til 2013 he attended the “Master Course in Accordion” with Claudio Jacomucci and Kathleen Delaney, mastering in the study of his instrument and following lessons of Alexander Technique. He continued to study the Alexander Technique with Stephen Parker (UK) and Katrien Vanderbeke (BEL).
In 2007 he recorded the soundtrack for the silent film of the twenties “Blind Husbands” of Erich von Stroheim under the direction of the composer Tiziano Popoli, with original compositions of the composer himself. The DVD is published by the Centro Audiovisivi of Bolzano.

In 2011-2 he played in the instant improvisation group “The Comfort Zone” of Merano. Bolzano: festival “Adige Risuona” under Staffan Mossenmark (Sve).
2015: soloist with the Orchestra of the conservatory of Pescara (Symphonic Fantasy and allegro op.20 by Ole Schmidt)
Luca follows a specialization course for teachers at CVO Panta Rhei in Gent (Belgium).
